I’m in charge of Tom Davies on Smooth Breakfast. The silly thing is that one of my earliest memories of radio is listening to Tom with the lights off on a Halloween special of ‘Tom’s Talk In.’ Who’s more embarrassed about that? Tom or me? I don’t know!
I’ve been in the North East all my life - I was born in Darlington, went to school in Yarm, got a degree in TV and Radio Production at Sunderland Uni and now I live in Whickham, within shouting distance of the Metro Centre, which is handy on payday.
I’m joining Smooth Breakfast from Century Radio’s breakfast show so the early starts are a doddle for me - I wish. I’ve worked in radio since I left Uni, apart from a brief spell shop-fitting (that’s shop-fitting not shop-lifting) It’s great to be involved with Smooth Radio. I feel the people of the North East have always wanted a radio station like this and it’s a pleasure to be part of the team that’s giving you what you deserve.
People say it must be hard getting up so early in the morning but it’s not that bad when you think people start the day listening to the show I work on and I get to listen to great music. It’s a pleasure working with someone so enthusiastic about the North East and about the music we play on Smooth Radio. So that’s what gets me through the long drive down the A1 from Whickham to Team Valley at half 4 in the morning. Don’t forget it does mean I get away relatively early in the afternoon so I avoid the dreaded rush hour traffic – muhahahaaaa!

I always wanted to be a spaceman or a footballer, but I’m asthmatic and can’t do either.
If a film was made of your life which actor should play you?
Brian Glover when he was alive or Hulk Hogan, any muscle-bound-wrestler with a hair loss problem.
What was the first record you ever bought?
Happy Christmas War is Over Lennon and Yoko. – on 12” vinyl at a bring and buy sale.
What’s the worst single you ever bought?
Canq Plan Pour Mois - by French Pseudo Punkers "Plastique Bertrand"…it’s also the funniest single I’ve ever bought!
